Your Doula Cares

This is a post I saw on Call the Doula Facebook Page. It is sometimes so hard to explain what doulas do, but this encapsulates the spirit beautifully.

Mother bonding with her newborn baby after birth.

What your doula wished you knew...

[...]

Your doula cares about your birth more than you know.

She cares about how you are spoken to.

She cares about who touches you and when.

She cares about the tone in the room.

She cares about the pause before a decision.

She cares about your partner not feeling lost.

She cares about your “no” being heard the first time.

She cares about your dignity.

She is watching everything.

She notices when your shoulders tense before you say you’re scared.

She notices when the room gets loud.

She notices when you need water, or quiet, or reassurance, or space.

We don’t just show up for your contractions. We show up for you.

Because birth is not just about how your baby arrives.

It’s about how you arrive.

You deserve to look back and remember strength.

You deserve to remember being respected.

You deserve to remember feeling supported, not managed.

Glowing new mother with her newborn baby.

A doula is not there to control your birth.

She is there to protect your experience.

And long after the lights are turned off and the room is quiet, she will still be thinking about you.

Wondering if you’re resting.

Hoping you feel proud.

Hoping you feel seen.

That’s the part we don’t put in the brochure.

We don’t just show up for your contractions.

We show up for you.
